It was generally used by mounted samurai and cavalry. The starting price 1500 € is for a Tanzutsu with a slightly conical cylindrical barrel and a flared octagonal muzzle (photo). The handle receives 3 circular brass inlays (2 lateral and 1 upper). The mechanism parts are made of carbon steel and brass depending on the model chosen. The wood species are either ebony, cocobolo, bocote or centenary French walnut. The colours cocobolo and bocote woods in pictures are in a young state. As they age, these essences darken and take on a beautiful patina. The Tanzutsu is delivered with a decorated powder flask and wooden stand in matching wood species.
Many options and customizations are possible. The barrel can be octagonal-conical, with a decorated flared muzzle. The barrel may be inlaid with fine gold and silver gilt motifs. AAM does not master this technique. This work is subcontracted to the best workers in France in this art, the cost is high. Many of these weapons received inlays of engraved plates and inlaid brass wire. These decorations are possible only on quotation. According to the complexity and the number of the motives to be carried out the overcost can be relatively important.
